A Young Person's Big Sister Mentor Guide
A Young Person's Big Sister Mentor Guide
Big Sister Mentor is a space just for you, a place to talk, think things through, and feel supported. It’s like having a calm, trustworthy older sister to chat with about whatever’s on your mind.
It’s not school, not therapy, and not a lecture.
Where are you located?
Sessions can either take place online via Zoom, or at an agreed public place in the following suburbs: Hawthorn, Auburn, Camberwell, Kew or Balwyn.
Anything you want help with, like:
confidence and self-esteem
friendships
school stress or motivation
family stuff
emotions
social media pressure
goals or things you’re working towards
Nothing is too small. You decide what we talk about.
Sessions are:
1:1
50 minutes
relaxed and conversation based
You don’t need to prepare anything. We’ll just talk about how things are going and what might help.
No, this isn’t therapy or counselling.
It’s mentoring and support. I’m here to listen, help you think things through, and support you, not to diagnose or “fix” you. I'm just like a big sister to support you through whatever you're feeling is a lot right now!
No, not everything. Your sessions are private so you can speak openly. The only time I would need to tell a parent is if I was worried about your safety or wellbeing.
That’s totally okay. You don’t need to have the “right” words, we’ll figure things out together.
That’s okay too.
You’re always allowed to:
change the topic
take a break
stop sessions if it doesn’t feel right
This is meant to help you, not pressure you.
Not at all.
Some people come because:
they want more confidence
they want someone outside their family to talk to
they’re going through changes
they just want support
they have new ideas or thoughts that they want to challenge or sort through
You don’t have to be “going through something big.”
Yes. There are clear boundaries, kindness, and respect. You’ll always be treated seriously and with care.
