How Does a Session Work?
Supporting your child should feel simple, safe, and reassuring. Here’s how Big Sister Mentor works, step by step.
The first step is a short, no pressure chat just for parents or caregivers.
This 10 minute phone call is a chance to:
ask any questions you have
understand how sessions work
share a little about your child and what they might need
see if Big Sister Mentor feels like the right fit
There’s no obligation, just a friendly conversation.
If you’re happy to move forward, we’ll book your child’s first mentoring session at a time that suits your family.
You’ll receive:
a welcome email
session details
clear information about boundaries, safety, and confidentiality
Everything is designed to feel calm and easy for both you and your child.
Each session is a relaxed 1:1 Zoom conversation between your child and their mentor, unless previously organised to be in person (suburb limited)
Sessions are:
friendly and supportive
guided, but led by what your child needs that day
a safe space to talk openly without judgment
Your child can:
talk about feelings or worries
share friendship or school challenges
aim to build confidence and communication skills
learn healthy ways to manage stress
set small goals and reflect on their week
simply feel listened to
No pressure. Nothing is forced. Sometimes just talking helps a lot.
Your child’s safety and wellbeing are always the top priority.
sessions are held on secure Zoom links or at an agreed upon public location
clear professional boundaries are always maintained
conversations are confidential, with clear safeguarding limits
if anything shared indicates a risk to your child’s safety, parents or guardians will be contacted immediately
Big Sister Mentor is not therapy or counselling, but supportive mentoring. If professional mental health support is ever needed, this will be discussed with you.
That’s completely okay.
If you’re unsure, the best place to start is a free parent intro call. You’re welcome to ask questions, share concerns, and take your time deciding. Email me to book a free parent intro call, I’m always happy to chat!
